Kristen Singer lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she teaches theatre at Indian Trail High School and Academy. She also teaches private voice lessons at RG Performing Arts and directs/conducts productions for KUSD Theater Arts. Kristen's most recent productions include Side by Side by Sondheim and the upcoming pilot production of The Prince of Egypt. Her productions of Bright Star and Chicago: Teen Edition and Curtains: School Edition won numerous Jerry Awards and her students performed at the Overture Center as recipients in the Outstanding Musical category. Kristen's private voice student, and cast member in Chicago: Teen Edition earned a spot in the 2023 Jimmy Awards in New York City and placed as one of eight semi-finalists. Kristen will be traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland, with co-director Nic Cicerale and 20 high school students to perform Scenes from Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman as part of the AHSTF during the 2025 Fringe Festival.
Kristen sang in the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus under the direction of Cheryl Frazes Hill from 2021-2023. She can be seen in the film, The Fear of Looking Up , and heard in The Book of Birdie, a film she sang and arranged the music for. Kristen works as a freelance music director and accompanist in the Milwaukee/Chicago area.
A native of Kenosha, Kristen returned to Wisconsin after living in Florida, New York City, and spending a great deal of time in London. She was an adjudicator at the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, for seven years, and has worked with the talented team at iTheatrics as a music director/accompanist on several projects. Kristen directed and produced KYPAC, a summer theatre program for elementary and middle school students, from 2016-2019. An accomplished pianist, Kristen has accompanied musicals her entire adult life. She also performed as a singer/dancer and vocal captain on cruise ships prior to attending university.
Kristen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and attended the University of Florida as a grad student, majoring in costume design. Kristen received her Masters in Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy in May 2020 from Carthage College. She is the recipient of the National Society for High School Scholar's 2020 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year Award (Band/Music).
